Thor Laser Systems
Professional-grade photobiomodulation systems with precision-calibrated emitters
About Thor
Thor Photomedicine Ltd is a UK-based company that has been a pillar of the photobiomodulation (PBM) industry for over 25 years. They're known for their precision-focused approach, calibrated emitters, and extensive involvement in clinical research.
Thor has worked with institutions including Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, MIT, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the US and British military. They have over 5,000 clients across 70+ countries and have contributed to over 100 published research papers.
The Thor Approach
Every Thor emitter is factory-calibrated before shipment, with annual recalibrations included for 5 years. When a protocol calls for specific joules at a specific depth, Thor emitters deliver exactly that.
Thor uses separate, purpose-built emitters for different treatment types—deep-tissue laser probes, surface LED clusters, and pinpoint probes—rather than trying to do everything with one device.
Thor emphasizes the dual nature of laser therapy: stimulation (for healing) and inhibition (for pain). Their protocols address both aspects for each condition.
Metal connectors, oversized wiring, all-metal emitters. Thor equipment is built for durability in professional clinical environments.
LX2 System (Controllers & Probes)
Thor's LX2.3 is their flagship controller system. It's FDA-cleared and CE-marked for oral mucositis, tendinopathies, joint pain, neck pain, and back pain. All Thor systems are built to order with interchangeable probes.
Connections for 2 emitters. Controls time, power level, and frequency.
5 diodes, 1W continuous output. Class 3B for deep penetration.
69–104 LED clusters (660nm + 850nm) for shallow targets and lymphatic work.
200mW or 450mW pinpoint probes for targeted treatments.

Specialty Products
Whole-body light therapy bed. 660nm red + 850nm near-infrared. 15–20 minute full-body treatments. 5-year warranty.
Transcranial photobiomodulation device for brain-focused applications.
30mW red laser with acupuncture tip. Used for smoking cessation and trigger point therapies.
Veterinary-specific portable controller. Works with all Thor emitters.
Target Applications
Thor has strong research support for chemotherapy/radiation-induced oral mucositis, with COG and ESMO recommendations.
Thor works with Anne Penman clinics for laser auricular acupuncture smoking cessation protocols.
Joint pain, back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, arthritis. Over half of 200+ published RCTs on LLLT focus on pain.
Dedicated veterinary systems used for wound healing, soft tissue injuries, and pain management in animals.
Tissue repair and regeneration, including post-surgical applications.
Used by Premier League soccer teams, Olympic teams, Formula 1, rugby and cricket teams.
Protocol Library & Training
Thor includes access to their online treatment library with purchase. Protocols were developed by placing measuring devices deep in tissue to determine optimal energy density, then creating standardized protocols that any calibrated emitter can replicate.
Thor also offers extensive training: 24 courses annually in the USA, 24 in the UK, and 6 in Australia. They provide ongoing tech support and will create custom protocols on request.
Technical Notes
When pulsing, Thor maintains 88% duty cycle vs. the 50% or less common in other systems, delivering more energy during pulsed protocols.
Thor emphasizes there's "such a thing as too much power"—excessive energy may provide analgesia but slow healing. They focus on hitting the therapeutic "sweet spot."
Thor primarily uses Class 3B lasers, noting that Class IV beams must be defocused to avoid cutting tissue, and scientific evidence confirms lower intensity is more effective for inflammation and healing.
